The Metrics That Signal Real Performance
The metrics that matter are the ones connected to outcomes your business cares about. For most brands, these are: website traffic from social, lead generation, conversion rate, cost per acquisition, and return on ad spend.
For Organic Content
Reach how many unique people saw your content.
Engagement rate interactions divided by reach, not by followers.
Link clicks how many people moved from your content to your website or offer.
Saves particularly on Instagram, a strong signal of genuine value.
For Paid Campaigns
Cost per result what it costs to generate one lead, sale, or click.
Return on ad spend (ROAS) revenue generated per naira spent on ads.
Conversion rate the percentage of ad clicks that result in the desired action.
Building a Reporting System
Set your KPIs before a campaign begins, not after. Define what success looks like in concrete terms a cost per lead below a certain amount, a ROAS above a specific threshold then track against those benchmarks weekly.
Report monthly to stakeholders using a simple dashboard that shows trends, not just point-in-time data. Progress over time tells a far more useful story than a single month's numbers.
